Rejuvenation of Rajendra Sarovar Park in Dhanbad
Dhanbad municipal corporation (DMC) has transformed an infested water body and surrounding area into a city park by rejuvenating RajendraSarovar Park at a cost of Rs 1 crore under AMRUT Mission. It has been formally opened for public in January 2019. The initiative has not only provided the much needed open spaces to the residents but also controlled the pollution. Development of this park was preceded by a local community consultation conducted by DMC during preparation of service Level Improvement Plan (SLIP). Being an old establishment and coal mining heartland, vacant space remained a scarcity in Dhanbad. The ULB identified the pond and adjacent Rajendra Sarovar park area. The pond was facing water and land pollution due to choking drainage outlets of the neighbouring areas. It was decided to develop a park keeping the pond as central attraction.
Accordingly ‘aeration’ of the pond was considered for its water quality improvement. A small treatment facility was developed that discharged treated water to the pond. The components of the project included boundarywall , gate and walking / jogging track , children’s play equipment , parking areas , horticulture and other works.
Water fountains installed inside the park are improving the water quality. Furthermore the musical laser light show, improved landscaping. LED based lighting and amphitheater facility has improved the aesthetics of the entire neighborhood. The estimated footfall in the park presently varies from 500 to 700 persons per day.

To make the above work successful, suggestions of citizens are invited on Jharkhand.mygov.in
